Exceptional Services By Working Together

About Us

The Southwest New Brunswick Service Commission (SNBSC) provides services for developing and planning regional recreation initiatives, including policies to support shared regional sport, recreation, and cultural facilities; and facilitating administrative, financial, and other service arrangements between our members. These initiatives include coordination of recreation development and capacity building, recreation asset and trail mapping, facility and program inventory,  capacity and recreation need assessments and recreation master planning.

The Commission’s vision is that everyone in Southwest New Brunswick is engaged in meaningful, accessible recreation experiences that foster individual and community well-being and the well-being of our natural and built environments (adopted from Pathways to Wellbeing: Framework for Recreation in Canada). SNBSC serves members who live in Charlotte county which includes McAdam,  St. Stephen, Saint Andrews, the Fundy Isles, Campobello Island, Grand Manan Island, the communities of Eastern Charlotte, and the communities in the Rural District.

Recreation Master Planning

SNBSC has completed a Regional Recreation Master Plan following a 2-phase study. First, a recreation asset inventory was compiled, mapping Southwest New Brunswick’s recreation assets–places used by the public for leisure such as trails, arenas, sports fields, pools, parks and beaches, playgrounds, golf courses, tennis courts, curling clubs, and skateboard parks.   In the second phase, the inventory was used to develop a plan that looks at recreation planning from a regional perspective, highlighting both built and nature-based recreation opportunities. The Regional Recreation Plan includes an enabling action plan with short, medium, and long-term priorities for regional recreation development.

SNBSC has been the entity through which Municipalities, Rural Communities, and Local Service Districts have come together to identify and reach a consensus on the need and the scope of recreation services, including assessments of the major facilities that support recreation activities in the region.  To support the needs identified by our members,  SNBSC  is responsible for facilitating the planning, development, and administration of a Recreation Master Plan Policy  (RMP-1), which supports major sports and recreation facilities in the region and builds recreation capacity in the towns and villages throughout the region.
